The entity was able to equip itself with two ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicles) that will allow inspections in the fishing and aquaculture sectors, facilitating the detection of violations of the General Fishing and Aquaculture Law.

Thanks to a program funded by the Aysén Regional Government, the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) has been able to acquire new tools to strengthen inspections in the fishing and aquaculture activities in the region, as well as to hire navigation and flight services for the same purpose.

The Service was able to acquire two ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles) that will allow inspections in the fishing and aquaculture sectors, facilitating the detection of violations of the General Fishing and Aquaculture Law. Regarding fishing inspections in areas of benthic resource management (AMERB), especially in geographically difficult to access areas, it will allow more efficient, timely and technically based supervision. aims. The incorporation of ROV technology aligns with the new sampling activities control procedure in AMERB, which includes the use of technological tools to strengthen the monitoring of baseline situation studies and follow-ups.

In this context, the ROVs will complement the use of remote monitoring technologies, such as trajectory analysis and sampling points through digital records, strengthening control over compliance with current regulations and providing greater traceability and support for the inspection actions of the Service. Likewise, these units will allow for the optimization of the planning of inspection tasks and improving the coverage of control in those areas where there have been operational limitations historically.

In this sense, a group of 17 officials from Sernapesca in the Aysén region were trained to operate this device, which will allow them to carry out underwater inspections. The course included a theoretical part where they analyzed the models, equipment operation, maintenance, possible failures and care. Subsequently, they moved to Acantilada bay to put their acquired knowledge to the test and begin to operate the ROV being able to perform the different motor and light movements.

Daniela Leiva, regional director of Sernapesca in Aysén commented: "We continue to advance in the implementation of this important program funded by GORE, which has allowed us to strengthen inspections. The ROVs are technical tools that allow us to increase our visibility underwater and reach places that otherwise we would not be able to access. This will allow us to mainly inspect the fishing activity, and that which It happens under the sea surface. It is a contribution that we value very much.”

Finally, Fernando Guzmán, head of the Development and Industry Division of GORE, commented: “We are very happy that financing for technology acquisition allows Sernapesca to carry out its monitoring work more efficiently and practically, especially thinking of a region like ours that is extensive and has places that are difficult to access. We hope that this project and other futures of this kind will have an impact important in the different work of Sernapesca and other services that contribute to the development of our region.”
