The activity will take place on Monday 28 September at 15:00 hours, and aims to create a space for training and dialogue around the opportunities offered by the cooperative model for the sustainable development of small-scale aquaculture.

The Subsecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) invites to participate in the Online seminar on Association and Cooperativism for the Strengthening of Small Scale Aquaculture, which will take place next Monday 28 September at 15:00 hours, and to which interested people will be able to access through the link enabled for the activity.

The body aims to provide tools and promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences regarding association and the cooperative model as alternatives to strengthen the productive, sustainable and territorial development of small-scale aquaculture.

Currently, this sector faces various challenges related to access to markets, funding, infrastructure, technology, technical assistance and negotiation capacity. In this context, collective organization can facilitate the joint management of resources, drive investments, strengthen marketing capabilities and incorporate greater value into production.

During the seminar the characteristics, benefits, requirements and opportunities of the cooperative model will be addressed, as well as its link with the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), an international instrument aimed at promoting a productive, resilient, inclusive and environmentally responsible aquaculture.

The activity will also allow the dissemination of these guidelines and analyze their relationship with the associativity of small producers, along with providing information that contributes to strengthening the knowledge and capabilities of those who develop or plan initiatives related to small-scale aquaculture.

Another key aspect of the meeting will be the training of new generations, promoting the inclusion of content related to association and cooperativism in technical-professional high schools that offer specialities linked to aquaculture.

Who can participate?

The activity is directed to small-scale aquaculturists; artisanal fishermen and their organizations that develop or plan aquaculture activities; people interested in forming cooperatives; representatives and professionals from public institutions linked to productive development; teachers, students and management teams from technical-professional high schools; academic institutions and organizations related to association and cooperativism.

The invitation is to join this training and dialogue session to learn about the opportunities offered by associative work and to move towards a more sustainable, collaborative and inclusive small-scale aquaculture.
