The company's professionals –among other things– have certification in the use of Autodesk & SolidWorks software, while their Technical Department was selected in 2021 and 2023 as a successful case by Comgrap Autodesk Chile.
Began as a small infrastructure that supported a dairy company in the Los Lagos region. However, today it is one of the main shipyards of the southern zone of Chile, leading metal mechanical services and technological developments for the meat, dairy and aquaculture sectors.
It is about Sometal, company belonging to Metalmac Group, which specializes in the manufacture of high quality products, integrating multidisciplinary engineering and technological developments.
In 2019, with the creation of its Department of Engineering, the firm has incorporated, in each of its processes, high-tech machinery, which not only sought to enhance metalmechanical services, but promote its positioning as a benchmark in Research, Development and Innovation (R & D & I).

"Today, we are able to manufacture equipment that before customers imported from abroad, so we have become a technological reference, not only as teaching services, but also at the engineering level. We have a staff of mechanical civil engineers and structural calculists, thus we have managed to open up fields in different subjects", explains Partnerfish and the Aquaculture Directory Jorge Ávila, factory manager of Sometal, who has extensive experience in the metal-mechanical field.
Exponential growth
Founded in 2007 by Manuel Canales Córdoba, a visionary of the metal mechanics sectorSometal began as a small teachership, but grew rapidly, currently consolidating as one of the largest in the southern part of the country.
The metal mechanics company was a pioneer in implementing the waterjet, laser and plasma cutting.

Currently, has almost 40 collaborators and collaboratorsincluding highly qualified personnel in the development of multidisciplinary design engineering and 3D prototypes, and during 2023 joined the Los Lagos Regional Committee of the Association of Metallurgical and Metalmechanical Industries (Asymmetry), taking a step towards associativeness in the metalworking industry.

"There are no companies that have all the technology we own. This is why we say that we are a technological leader, with all the services integrated. We continue to grow and develop equipment that is already on the market today. For example, in Chile we are a reference in the development and supply of parts and parts of machines for the meat sector, while in the dairy sector we serve large referents such as Nestlé, Watt's, Lactalis, among others"Ávila highlights.
The representative of Sometal argues that one of the company's objectives is to contribute to the industry not only with executed work, but that also providing quality employment, with good remuneration and job welfare.
"We're working hard on that. We are a company that has a vision of job security and that a job well paid, with a healthy working environment, achieves efficiency in production", emphasizes Partnerfish and the Aquaculture Directory the factory manager of the metal-mechanical firm.

"They recognize us as partner from several suppliers of the aquaculture sector, since we have the ability to apply engineering at all levels, with a staff highly trained. At capacity level, We can make what the customer can think of, either to transform the plastic or steel and so we have progressed.", says Jorge Ávila, who highlights vision of the Canales Córdoba family, owner of the Metalmac Group, by specializing in providing technological solutions for main productive areas in the south-south of the country.
About the projections for 2024, the company executive emphasizes that they are opening new lines of business focused on aquaculture.
