Aquaculture is a relevant opportunity if there is proper planning and fundamental elements for the development of this activity are considered in a balanced way, such as economic, social and environmental objectives, with particular emphasis on the development of markets and local consumption. In this sense, contributing to the national aquaculture diversification, through the generation of scientific knowledge as well as encouraging the Generation of networks and social capital to advance in this diversification is a key challenge for national aquaculture.

In this context, the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR) will hold the seminar on Tuesday, August 6th.Oysters in Chile: Opportunities and challenges for aquaculture diversification" The event will take place in the Professor Alamiro Robledo auditorium, of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences of the University of Concepción, starting at 09:00 hours.

The seminar will be a day of dissemination and reflection on the existing knowledge for the oyster resources that are farmed and exploited in Chile (Pacific oyster and Chilean oyster) includes speakers who address the development of oyster aquaculture from different approaches, both nationally and internationally.

"From the INCAR Centre we believe this resource is a sustainability model that allows the development of small-scale aquaculture (APE) at a local level, and allows the association of ecosystem services and productive chain around the oyster," explained the Deputy Director of the INCAR Centre, Dr. Cristian Gallardo-Escárate.

The themes addressed in this seminar cover areas such as genomic research, technology transfer, restoration and sustainability, productive development, and channels for marketing and promotion. "We hope this seminar allows us to integrate existing experiences and enables us to project research actions in sustainable oyster aquaculture," emphasized Dr. Gallardo-Escárate.

The final program will be released in the next days and registrations can be made to the mail centroincar@udec.cl
