Small-scale aquaculture (APE) has had around four decades of history in Chile.

"I hope we can do business and be suppliers to many people who like our products. I know. consume little products of the sea in Chile and this is a good instance to promote and promote their consumption. It is good that we show what we have in Chiloé," added Polinia Mansilla.

Indespa's national director, Leonardo Llanos Huerta, stressed that small-scale aquaculture (SSA) is a key engine to develop local economies and bring about changes in the supply of seafood, its distribution and sale.

Food security

The APE has about four decades of history in the country. In recent years it has increased interest on this sustainable productive activity, which through its food crops contributes to food security and global nutrition, together with generating new sources of employment and income for coastal communities.

At the national level, there are close to one thousand two hundred cultivation centres small scale, of which about one hundred correspond to concessions led by organizations of fishers and artisanal fishermen.
