In neighborhood 2 there are 28 active growing centers with a total biomass (living fish) of 49,727 tons.
On the afternoon of this Monday, November 27, the Los Lagos Regional Directorate of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) confirmed a new mass mortality event within Reloncaví, but this time in the Salmonidae Concessions Group (ACS, also known as "barrio") Number 2, area that until last week had only activated its action plans for harmful algal blooms (FAN) by high microalga concentrations Thalassiosira pseudonana.

According to the information provided by the monitoring body, 28 active crop centres with a total biomass (live fish) of 49,727 tons are located in "neighborhood 2". Of the total number of centers, eleven have activated their action plans by NAF and two of these their action plans for mass mortality.

"The mortality recorded today, Monday, November 27, is 913.5 tons. As we have always been monitoring compliance with the contingency plans of the companies concerned and the removal of the mortality that the companies themselves must do. Mortality is being withdrawn in its entirety and 898.8 tons have already been brought to its final disposal to reducing plants. We'll keep an eye on the surrounding ACS, now. that the centers in these areas continue to report daily the presence of the microalga and irregular behavior of the fish, which represents a signal of attention for our service," explained the regional director of Sernapesca Los Lagos, Cristian Hudson.
NAFs are a natural phenomenon caused by multiple climatic and environmental factors, generating a numerical increase of one or more microalgae species in water. Specifically, microalgae Thalassiosira pseudonana It lodges in the gills of the fish, generating internal damage and causing its death by asphyxiation. This microalgae does not correspond to the so-called “red sea”, so there is no involvement of bivalve molluscs or other fish.
