The inputs will be addressed, among other things, so that the authority can establish specific legislation for aquaculture in exposed and high-energy marine areas.

Between the 15:00 and 18:00 hours this Monday, December 19, in the Auditorium Hall of the former Faculty of Fisheries and Oceanography of the Headquarters Puerto Montt (Los Lagos region) of the Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh), located in Calle Los Pinos s/n, Pelluco spa, will be held a workshop organized by the Strategic Technological Programme for the Development of Ocean Aquaculture (17PTECAO-84017) and by the Institute of Naval and Maritime Sciences of the Faculty of Engineering Sciences UACh.

This body will be carried out in the context of one of the invitations to tender issued during this year by PETECAO (summary sections of 17PTECAO-84017) and entitled Analysis and proposal of technical elements for the preparation of a calculation report for the mooring and installation of cultivation modules for ocean aquaculture or exposed areas.

Contribution to sustainability

PETEAO is a public-private initiative launched in 2019 under the umbrella of the Most Sustainable Mesoregional Salmon Strategic Programme of the Production Development Corporation (Corfo) and which has as its fundamental objective progress towards the cultivation of fish in exposed areas or also called high energy areas.

As stated by the Program Director, Dr. Daniel Nieto Díaz-Muñoz, high oceanographic energy conditions allow for greater animal welfare for fish, “as it increases the replacement of water, oxygen, among others positive characteristics for salmon farming and the search for the Programme as a real contribution to the sustainability of industry”.

“All this, along with delivering the necessary inputs so that regulatory entities such as the Undersecretary for Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subfishing) can establish new legislation for aquaculture in exposed and high-energy areas,” added Dr. Nieto, inviting “all those who are linked to the aquaculture sector, especially in the technical, logistics, operations, production, among others, to be part of this important workshop.”
