Puerto Varas will be the host of LACQUA25, an international event that is held for the first time in Chile and will bring together more than 800 experts from 33 countries, where SalmonChile actively participates through its technical-scientific branch INTESAL.
For the first time in its history, Chile will host the Latin American and Caribbean Aquaculture Congress - LACQUA25, an international event to be held from 6 to 10 October 2025 at the Enjoy Hotel in Puerto Varas. SalmonChile, through its Salmon Technology Institute (INTESAL) - an entity that functions as its specialized scientific-technical branch - participates as co-organizer of this meeting which will bring together more than 800 professionals, scientists, producers and companies from the aquaculture sector from 33 countries.
The congress, organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (LACC-WAS), the Institute of Aquaculture and Environment of the Austral University of Chile in Puerto Montt and INTESAL, will take place under the slogan "Governance: a pillar for the sustainability of aquaculture in the context of climate change", addressing the main challenges and opportunities of the sector in the region.

Marcela Bravo, manager of Studies and Projects at SalmonChile, highlighted the importance of this event for the national industry. "For us it is an honor to be local co-organizers of LACQUA25, an event that is held for the first time in Chile and in the heart of national aquaculture, Puerto Varas. It fills us with pride to represent our country before the international community, showing the strength of Chilean science and innovation that have positioned Chile as a leader in aquaculture in America and a world reference," he indicated.
The program includes two keynote lectures by renowned national researchers such as Alicia Gallardo Lagno, current President of the Animal Health Standards Commission of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), and René Garreaud, professor of the Department of Geophysics at the University of Chile and Deputy Director of the Climate and Resilience Research Centre (CR2).
With more than 630 people already registered and 385 scientific papers received, LACQUA25 will offer a strong program that includes 24 thematic sessions on health and well-being, sustainability, nutrition and genetics, among others. The event will also feature eight specialized technical workshops, a high-level panel on aquaculture governance in the face of climate change, and a commercial fair with 50 sector exhibitors, consolidating itself as a unique space for the exchange of knowledge and the strengthening of professional networks.
"This meeting is a unique opportunity to share advances, strengthen networks and continue promoting the sustainable development of aquaculture, not only in Chile, but throughout the region. We are happy to contribute to the dialogue and exchange of knowledge that builds the future of the industry and our communities," added Bravo.
