Facilities point to the sustainable cultivation of marine species and the generation of applied knowledge for the management of coastal ecosystems in southern Chile.
Postgraduate and Master's students in Science, with a focus on Conservation and Management of Natural Resources from the University of Los Lagos carried out an academic visit to the Aquaculture and Marine Sciences Center (CEACIMA-METRI), located in the town of Metri, in Puerto Montt.
During the day, the students toured their facilities, in order to learn about the research lines, equipment and scientific capabilities that support the work of CEACIMA-METRI.

The activity included a talk by Dr Mauricio Pineda, researcher from the Aquaculture Production Unit (UPA), who presented the main research, development and innovation (R+D) projects currently being carried out at Metri, which aim at the sustainable cultivation of marine species and the generation of applied knowledge for the management of coastal ecosystems in southern Chile.

In this context, postgraduate students were invited to use the CEACIMA-METRI laboratories as support spaces for the development of their research units and thesis work, thus promoting training based on scientific practice and interdisciplinary work.
It is important to strengthen the link between postgraduate teaching and the university's scientific infrastructure and this visit allowed to consolidate the links between postgraduate programs and the research activities of the University of Los Lagos. In this way, we reaffirm the institutional commitment to the training of advanced human capital specialized in the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources commented Dr Alfonso Gutiérrez, academic of the course Resource Management, from the Master's programmes in Science, majoring in Production, Management and Conservation of Natural Resources and Doctorate in Science, majoring in Conservation and Management of Natural Resources.
