The meeting organized by the Marine Observatory Reloncaví (OMARE) will have the presentation of results of several projects ANID Fondecyt Regular.

Featured researchers are invited to participate and present their work experiences in the III Workshop entitled “Deoxygenation, hypoxia, anoxia and ventilation in the North Patagonian fjords” organized by the Reloncaví Marine Observatory (OMARE) of I-mar Centre of the Los Lagos University.

The appointment is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21st from 09:00 hours and as the organizing researcher at ULagos, Dr. Iván Pérez- Santos this is an event that invites all those who work or are interested in the waters of Northern Patagonia. And in this sense, the exhibitors and researchers who have been convened for the workshop have research and extensive experience around the topics scheduled to be reviewed during the day.

“This third workshop of the marine observatory is going to concentrate on disseminating results of Regular ANID Fondecyt that are being developed in northern Patagonia, specifically the one that is studying the variability of dissolved oxygen. Among the results that will be presented, there are two scientific articles of this project, one that reports for the first time in the country the occurrence of the process of loss of oxygen of the waters of Patagonia known as deoxygenation and a second article describing all the processes that affect the oxygen of northern Patagonia that were part of Dr. Pamela Linford who did her PhD in Natural Resources Management and Conservation at the ULagos“ ” says Dr. Pérez-Santos.

The workshop will be divided into 3 blocks. In the first, Dr. Ivonne Montes and Dr. Boris Dewitte will report on what happens around the dissolved oxygen at the global level and what happens in the waters of the South Eastern Pacific Ocean. In the second block will be presented the results of the regular Fondecyt led by the researcher of OMARE ULagos, Iván Pérez Santos and who studies the variability of dissolved oxygen in Northern Patagonia. I know. it deals with the results of the last 4 years and it addresses, among other issues, problems with oxygen casualties, places where there is hypoxia and the recent finding of anoxia conditions in one of the fjords of this region.

The third block is called “Coupling of physical processes with biological processes” where researchers from the i-mar center will make approximations on oceanography processes in other areas of northern Patagonia, especially linked to harmful algal blooms.

Among the guests is Dr. Ivonne Montes who works at the Institute of Geophysics of Peru and who is part of one of the Fondecyt who will be in the workshop. The co-investigators will also be Boris Dewitte, Ph.D. in Science, researcher at the Ceaza Center, Coquimbo, Dr. Lauren Ross of the University of Maine, Dr. Gonzalo Saldías, Universidad del Bio Bio, Dr. Patricio Díaz Centro i-mar ULagos, Dr. Pamela Linford, you He finished his doctorate at ULagos and is now a postdoc of COPAS COASTAL the University of Concepción, master students: Camila Sola of the University of Valparaiso, Dr. Claudia Aracena, researcher at the Uach, PhD student, Elías Pinilla, University of Maine, Dr. Paulina Montero of the Patagonia Ecosystem Research Center, Coyhaique.

The event will be a space to deliver new information not only for the interest of science, but for all actors who use the Patagonian ecosystem.

Accreditations will start from 08:30 hours in dependencies of the i-mar center, Puerto Montt and the event will start with an southern-style breakfast, time to meet the participants.
