Predimar project was developed by the French company through resources from a funding program of the French Government.
This afternoon, the Environmental Superintendence (SMA) and the French company Bioceanor they signed a cooperation agreement for the implementation of the PREDIMAR system, an innovative predictive tool designed to improve water quality management in the Chilean salmon farming industry.
The agreement, signed by the Superintendent of the Environment, Marie Claude Plumer, and the President of Bioceanor, Samuel Dupont, is part of the work of the SMA to strengthen its enforcement and compliance strategy in the aquaculture sector, aiming to advance in a preventive and corrective approach to avoid non-compliance and possible penalties.
The PREDIMAR system consists of a predictive tool that will allow the SMA to detect early changes in the levels of dissolved oxygen in the water in the salmon fattening centers located in the fjords and southern channels of southern Chile. This technology will be able to predict drops in this parameter up to 48 hours in advance, thus allowing an appropriate response to possible environmental risks associated with potential mass fish deaths

Similarly, regulated companies will be able to access this data to take proactive measures and avoid negative impacts, promoting greater sustainability in aquaculture. Additionally, the information generated by this tool will be shared with other state agencies to improve institutional coordination and strengthen preventive management in the sector.
The Superintendent Marie Claude Plumer highlighted the importance of this initiative: "This agreement strengthens our capacity to anticipate and mitigate possible environmental risks. It is a project that will benefit the monitoring work of the Superintendence, as well as that of the regulated entities, through the use of technology, innovation and applied science, allowing the implementation of preventive actions in the face of possible emergencies."

The French ambassador to Chile, Cyrille Rogeau, said that “I am delighted to have participated in the milestone of the launch of the PREDIMAR project, led by the French company Bioceanor. This project exemplifies the excellence of French SMEs combining sustainability and technical innovation, helping to meet the challenges facing the SMA. It is a crucial step for Franco-Chilean cooperation and for the aquaculture sector in Chile”.
For his part, Samuel Dupont, president of Bioceanor stressed that “the collaboration between SMA and Bioceanor reflects a shared commitment to safeguard marine ecosystems, while ensuring the long-term viability of salmon farming activity and the operational efficiency of the sector”.
The PREDIMAR system is funded by the French Government's Treasury Directorate-General through the FASEP programme, a fund for the development of sustainable technologies. The tool has initially been implemented in strategic areas of salmon production, and will extend other areas of the country, consolidating more effective and sustainable regulation for the Chilean aquaculture sector.
