The institution has completed one year since its foundation and aims, in the medium term, to participate in different competencies, both at the local level and at the national level.
Recently, the Quellón Nautical School received a new boat type Optimist, which adds to the other four sailboats with which the entity founded a year ago in the province of Chiloé counts.
This thanks to the contribution of the company AquaChile, company that added to the objective of the school to allow the new generations a approach to sailing, to develop love of the sea and to continue the marine tradition of the chilotite population.
“Donation is a valuable contribution to the performance of the Quellón Nautical School, which is being consolidated as an entity that contributes to the integral growth of children in the area. We thank AquaChile for its interest in collaborating with this initiative,” said Héctor Agüero, captain of the Brotherhood of the Costa de Quellón, founding institution of the nautical school of that commune.
“We were interested in supporting this project because salmon farmers are seafarers and we know the importance of Chiloé’s link with navigation. We believe that this is an initiative of great impact, by bringing this sport for the first time closer to children in this commune,” said Francisco Sandoval, community manager of AquaChile.
For Ricardo Henríquez Kremer, a school instructor with his wife Silvana Dïaz, this is the first donation by a aquaculture company and means “an initial kick so that other companies can adhere to this cause. Every boat that arrives allows two new children to be added to our school.”
The formal delivery of the Optimist sailboat to the Nautical School was accomplished through Daniela Concha, responsible for community relations of AquaChile in Quellón, and Juan Fernández, plant manager AquaChile Quellón.
Optimist sailboats are internationally standardized single-manned boats, ideal for children between 6 and 14 years of age, with a single sail, weighing approximately 35 kilograms, plus a length of 2.4 meters.
One year since its foundation
It should be noted that the Quellón Nautical School has completed one year since its foundation and aims, in the medium term, to participate in different competencies, both at the local and national levels. “The reception of the community has been excellent. With my wife Silvana, as instructors we are happy with the support we have received. We would like to start interacting with other sailing schools, such as Quemchi schools, and then participate in regattas in the south, such as Puerto Varas and Valdivia,” added Ricardo Henríquez.
Patricio Torres, in charge of communications and community liaison at the Quellón Nautical School, said that “it is a great achievement for this beautiful initiative, to have the support of local companies. In this case, we thank AquaChile and its collaborators, for being one of the first companies of the salmon industry to believe and support this beautiful project, which has our children very enthusiastic.” Torres added that “we have others companies of the salmon sector that have visited the school and have voluntarily committed to the initiative, so we are waiting for that contribution to materialize.”
