Representatives from Rabobank visited cultivation centers, the processing plant and Mercado Blumar in Punta Arenas, where they saw first-hand the company's work in areas of quality, traceability and sustainability.
In the context of the relationship and on-site knowledge of the Chilean aquaculture industry, representatives of Rabobank visited different facilities of Blumar in the Magallanes region, with the aim of knowing the company's operations and deepening their understanding of the development of salmon farming in the southernmost part of the country.
The delegation - led by Thiago Guedes, Regional Sustainability Business Manager at Rabobank, and also including Ángeles Undurraga, Head of Sustainability and Cecilia Campos, Sustainability Associate - visited the Punta Laura cultivation center, the Blumar Magallanes processing plant and Mercado Blumar. The event allowed to address the main challenges and opportunities currently facing the salmon farming industry, especially in sustainability issues, operational efficiency, innovation and regional development.
The body also forms part of the relationship that Blumar maintains with Rabobank, an international bank specialized in food and agribusiness, which is the structuring bank and agent for the company through a Sustainability Linked Loan, a mechanism that incorporates sustainability targets and ESG performance.
The business manager of Blumar Salmon, Pedro Pablo Laporte, highlighted that the event allowed "to show on site the work carried out daily in Magallanes and how the industry has advanced in production standards, traceability, quality and sustainability. For us, it is relevant to create spaces for dialogue and transparency with actors who deeply understand the evolution of aquaculture at a global level."
From Rabobank, Undurraga, he appreciated that “the visit allowed us to appreciate the evolution that the salmon industry has experienced in Chile in strengthening its productive practices. Throughout the journey it was possible to observe an operation that transmits order, consistency and management aligned with defined standards in matters of quality, safety and traceability.”
Also, the financial institution highlighted the role Magellan has acquired for the development of the salmon industry and the future opportunities associated with innovation and sustainability. “We see growth prospects for those companies that are strengthening their practices. Global demand for healthy proteins continues to show an upward trend and Chilean salmon has a relevant opportunity as long as achieves a difference in environmental performance, animal welfare and regulatory compliance,” Undurraga said.
