Through its executive president, Loreto Seguel, the sector will be part of various meetings that seek to promote the importance of the salmon farming industry and Chilean salmon in the Asian market.
Loreto Seguel, executive president of the Salmon Council, is part of the Chilean business mission present at Expo Osaka 2025, an international event that brings together various countries that present their latest innovations and advances in various areas and economic activities.
The role of Seguel within the Osaka Expo is focused on promoting the importance of the salmon farming industry and the relevance of Chilean salmon in Japan, a country that is currently the second buyer of this product (after the United States), with 157 thousand tonnes exported in 2024, and an increase of 14% compared to the previous year.
It should be noted that this goal aligns with the country's purpose of promoting Chile as an open economy to the world that needs greater investments and exports to continue growing, creating jobs and maintaining its position in external markets.
Japan, as the fourth largest economy and highly globalized, gives us the opportunity to show what is best we can offer to the world. From the Salmon Council, we are interested in strengthening bilateral relations with one of our main buyers of coho salmon, whose 95% of world production is in Chile. It is also the opportunity to promote the attributes of local salmon farming in terms of quality, sustainability, innovation and international projection. As part of our export vocation, today we are present in more than 100 markets, and we have all the conditions to reach many more, especially within the Asian market", commented Seguel.

During the development of the event, the executive participated in the Opening Ceremony of the Chilean Pavilion and the National Day Hall Expo, where Chilean authorities, headed by President Gabriel Boric, met with Japanese representatives and other members of the delegation.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday May 13, meetings will take place between Chile and Japan Business Council, where authorities such as Takehiko Kakiuchi, leader of Japanese Chapter, Rosario Navarro, President of SOFOFA, Shigeru Ishiba, Prime Minister of Japan; Junzo Tateno, vice president of Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ramón Jara, leader of Chilean Chapter will meet. The day will continue with presentations by Esteban Valenzuela, Minister of Agriculture and Claudia Sanhueza, Undersecretary of International Economic Relations.
In addition, the block "Chile 2025: Economic perspectives and political landscape on the eve of the presidential elections" will feature the presentations of José Ramón Valente, former Minister of Economy, and Kengo Nakayama, senior economist and Corporate Planning Division, MUFG Bank.
Although National Chile Day at the event takes place between 12 and 14 May, Expo Osaka will remain open until 13 October. That is why ProChile is in charge of coordinating the country's presence, scheduling 20 thematic weeks, in the organization of which more than 80 business associations and more than 25 local organizations are involved.
