Fair organization aims to ensure that environmental management is a central part of its operational execution in the Los Lagos Region.

With just a couple of weeks to go before Aquasur 2026, which expects more than 20 thousand visitors from 24 to 26 March at its 20,000 m² venue, organisers have launched a comprehensive logistics operation to change how waste is handled during the event. By applying circular economy principles at scale, separating waste at source and monitoring it continuously, the fair aims to ensure that environmental management be a central part of its operational execution in the Los Lagos Region.

This strategy is based on the deployment of trained monitors in the field, whose mission will be to advise participants and maximize the separation of materials with the aim of recycling between a 50 per cent and 60 per cent of the total waste produced during the days of the event.

Logistical capacity and technical support

To ensure compliance with these goals, Aquasur has the operational support of Tresol, a local company that currently manages some 4.742 tonnes per month in southern Chile. Of this volume, a 74,4% corresponds to recoverable waste, demonstrating its ability to absorb the demand for a fair of this magnitude.

The support for this operation includes a recently approved Collection Centre with the capacity to 768 tons per month, which allows a differentiated management between recoverable and non-recoverable waste with total traceability until its final destination.

Institutional commitment and reportability

Field management will be under the technical supervision of Sebastián Torres, Environmental Engineer at the University of Los Lagos and Head of Environment at Tresol, along with Carolina Vargas, Commercial Subgerent. At the end of the fair, a comprehensive and detailed environmental report will be issued to measure the actual impact of the operation.

On this deployment, Carola Fuentes, general manager of FISA, highlights the importance of this action for the operation of Aquasur 2026: "For FISA, environmental care is not only an ethical commitment, but a fundamental pillar of our operational management. We understand that events of the magnitude of Aquasur must be consistent with the sustainability challenges facing the aquaculture industry. Therefore, working with a local partner it allows us to ensure real and professional traceability, ensuring that the fair is a space where productive innovation and ecological responsibility advance hand in hand," he said.

Projection and circular economy

With this deployment, Aquasur 2026 seeks to minimize the interference of waste in the environment, optimizing each process so that waste generation does not disrupt the excellence of the meeting. The aim is to consolidate a model of minimal footprint, where logistics infrastructure and industrial recovery allow the fair to operate in a clean, efficient and fully integrated way to the principles of the circular economy in The Lakes Region.

“Today the region needs real solutions for its waste, and Aquasur is a concrete opportunity to demonstrate that it is possible to transform waste into resources,” concludes Carolina Vargas, commercial deputy manager of Tresol.
