AmiChile, the general management of the company, has expressed its recognition for the outstanding work and support provided by SUBPESCA, specifically by Benjamín Eyzaguirre, head of the Aquaculture Unit, and his team. The close collaboration they have maintained with them through a permanent working table has been fundamental to successfully addressing various challenges, including the recent achievement.

After almost a year since the request was made to the Subsecretariat of Fisheries for the inclusion of the denomination "mejillón", the resolution ex-0967/2023 has finally been issued. This important resolution officially includes the denomination "mejillón" for the resource M. chilensis in item 7. This inclusion will allow its inclusion in the statistical base of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) under the classification of "chorito or mussel"

It is important to remember that according to the Memorandum (D.AC.) No. 814/2022, the Aquaculture Division requested the Fisheries Administration Division to include the common name "chorito or mejillón" for the resource Mytilus chilensis. This request was based on the widespread recognition, at local, regional and national levels, of this resource as "mejillón". This name has been widely used by aquaculturists national as well as by the sector institutions. The modification carried out supports and strengthens Chilean mussel farming, consolidating our country as the main world exporter of this species.

This advancement represents excellent news and a significant achievement for the mussel farming industry, as it provides official support for commercial purposes and strengthens the positioning of the species in the international market. Now, the "chorito" is recognized as "chorito-mussel" both in the Sernapesca Fisheries and Aquaculture Statistical Yearbook and in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Agriculture.

The resolution has been published in the official journal and is available in its entirety on the official websites of the Subsecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, as well as the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service. As a media outlet, we are pleased to spread this excellent news and celebrate the positive impact it will have on the mussel farming industry.
