The ten participating companies presented high-impact projects, incorporating tools such as new underwater robotics accessories, artificial intelligence to create preventive models in occupational safety and the use of remote traceability technologies.

In an effort to promote innovation in salmon farming, Multi X and the Regional Innovation Center Los Lagos carried out a first Virtual Demo Day, initiative that brought together companies of different sizes to, through innovation, seek solutions to challenges specific to the salmon farming industry.

It is a successful instance of open innovation, in which public-private collaboration stood out as the driver of regional technological development.

Through the Opportunities Platform, an open innovation platform for regional productive sectors, managed by the Regional Innovation Center Los Lagos, the startups presented solutions to address three key sector challenges, which correspond to:

  • Net repair at farming centers using ROV technology.
  • Technologies for the control and monitoring of occupational risks in processing plants.
  • Efficiencies in processing plants through control and monitoring of container units.

The ten companies participating in the three challenges presented high impact projects, incorporating tools such as new accessories for underwater robotics, artificial intelligence aimed at creating preventive models aimed at occupational safety and the use of remote traceability technologies of the main container units.

On this initiative, Juan Ignacio Ubilla, Head of Innovation and Development, highlighted that "In Multi X we believe that innovation is a fundamental pillar of development. This is why we have an area dedicated exclusively to innovation management, whose goals participate in corporate objectives. In this regard, we have created a two-dimensional innovation programme. The first, of internal innovation, involves all who are part of the company. The second is external innovation, which promotes linkage with companies and startups focused on creating solutions to the main challenges of the industry.”

“In this way, the joint work with the Los Lagos Regional Innovation Center helps us to work on key challenges, know the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and implement solutions with impact on our operations,” added Ubilla.

For his part, Alejandro Velásquez, of the Los Lagos Regional Innovation Center, stressed that “This initiative not only boosts the incorporation of technology in the salmon sector, but also places the Los Lagos region as a key centre for innovation in strategic industries.”
