Located in Puerto Montt, this workshop has tools and equipment for digital manufacturing, to be able to carry out different prototypes, products or industrial solutions.

An innovative collaborative workspace was opened in Puerto Montt at the beginning of January this year. This is Puerto Maker, a place where, literally, ideas can be made in conjunction with other creatives from southern Chile.

The Puerto Maker workshop features 3D printers, CNC router, equipment and tools to carry out different prototypes, products or industrial solutions. “This is born under the protection of the movement Do it yourself, mechanic popular and all of us who are screwless twist“ Jorge Gajardo, a pioneer and one of the founders of Puerto Maker, explains.

According to Gajardo, who is an industrial designer by profession, this type of space was missing in the area, in which a playground can be mixed with tools for creatives and all those who seek innovation. “Here we put together a set of spaces, including 3D printing, design, carpentry, prototyping and a cowork for makers“ ” adds one of the drivers of this creative project.

The professions of the founders of Puerto Maker range from electronic engineers, programmers, industrial designers, to professionals with a lot of creative spirit. “The space is open to all those who want to participate constructively, who want to develop a product, or have an idea and want to work collaboratively. If you want to do real things, you are more than welcome,” Gajardo adds.

The industrial designer emphasizes that they can approach the Puerto Maker workshop, located on 766 Lord Cochrane Street in the capital of the Los Lagos region, from entrepreneurs, individuals, to representatives of companies or educational institutions. “They can come with customer samples, products, or validate products. We have strength in everything that is industrial design, from concept to product manufacturing. We support each other. much in 3D printing, as it is very important to validate ideas with prototyping. And with printers of that type it is very easy to achieve that quickly and at low cost,” says the professional.

It should be noted that the 3D area is in charge of Agustín Palacios, computer, while the project manager of Puerto Maker is Carolina Ovalle, industrial designer.

Another relevant area of Puerto Maker is electronics and automation. In charge of it are Angelo Guzmán and Pablo Velásquez, both electronic civil engineers, as well as automation specialists and AI. All this is complemented by an area of prototyping and carpentry, which is simpler, but at the same time more practical in everything that is manufacturing.

The workshop is also conducting courses, such as the first one held at the end of March, called the Basic 3D Printing Course, with the participation of students from DuocUC Puerto Montt. For them, Puerto Maker called for attention to membership announcements and upcoming courses, which will be announced by the social networks of the space.

Trend maker

Puerto Maker was born from the tendency to put together spaces to share knowledge and tools to entrepreneurs and students, called makerspaces. These are collaborative workshops equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technology, with a clear focus on inspiration to turn ideas into real products. All this in a stimulating and creative environment, allowing you to experiment materials and develop technical skills, using 3D printers, laser cutters and robotics. In short, a space that generates impact in the area of education and entrepreneurship.
