The event took place on Thursday, December 5, at the Puerto Montt campus of the University of Los Lagos.
With the aim of generating a meeting place between students and companies that provide different solutions for the industry, on Thursday 5 December the Engineering and Business Fair of the Los Lagos UniversityPuerto Montt campus.
At the meeting, organized by the Department of Engineering Sciences About fifteen engineering-related companies, including a number of suppliers from the aquaculture sector, participated in the study. One of these was Orza, a firm specializing in the design and manufacture of cage rafts, as well as parts and parts for salmon farming.

“This link between the university and the business sector is good, as students can see future work spaces. For the same reason, it is interesting this type of instances, which are necessary for both the industry and the study houses,” said Luis Caro Lagos, general manager of Orza, who added that today it is essential to invest in research and development.
In the case of Maestranza MMS, the objective of participating in this fair was to show innovative solutions for oxygenation and elimination of CO2 in the transport of fish.

“But in addition, we also want to look for talents for the generation of ideas, in our constant search to solve the challenges of aquaculture. In this sense, it was an excellent experience, especially because of the interest of the students in the manufacture of wellboat equipment, which is our specialty,” said Esteban Gutiérrez, general manager of the metalworking company.
Another company that participated in the Engineering and Company Fair was Southern Voltage, which specializes in electrical engineering solutions for the industry.

For Hardy Sepúlveda, general manager of the company, the main objective of being on display was to have direct contact with engineering students and show them the field of work. “It was very gratifying to see the boys’ interest in learning and knowing what they will do once they graduate from college,” Sepúlveda said.
Also present in the activity were companies such as La Península, Astilleros Calbuco, as well as Rhona, JMO Austral, among others.
Positive balance
From the University of Los Lagos they took care of the holding of this type of meetings, in order to link the students of this area with companies.

Rubén Barría Pizarro, an academic at the Department of Engineering Sciences at that school, “the idea was for students to get closer to the industrial sector. The balance sheet is more than positive, as there was a mutual exchange. We want to continue next year, to continue positioning the university as a relevant institution at the business level throughout the territory,” explained Barría.
