The Salmon Council, which has held meetings with authorities from our country and the United States, has emphasized the need to strengthen the global insertion of the industry in the face of potential tariff changes.

The executive president of the Salmon Council, Loreto Seguel, addressed the international scenario following recent announcements about potential tariff changes in the United States, highlighting the relevance of the American market and the strategic role of the industry in the Chilean economy.

"United States is a very relevant market for our industry and salmon is today the second most exported product from Chile, so any tariff change generates legitimate concern. But also, Chile is already present in more than 100 markets with its salmon, and this diversification is something we must continue to strengthen," he said.

Seguel emphasized that there is still not enough information to project specific impacts, but stressed the role that the sector will play in the analysis of the scenario, and therefore, "the role of the Council will be to analyze scenarios, dialogue with the authorities and contribute to ensure that Chile makes the right decisions so that the industry can fully develop its potential. In this context, as a sector, we maintain a permanent dialogue with the authorities in Chile, United States and various diplomatic representations, with the aim of sharing information and contributing to a country perspective.

Chilean salmon can become a global leader

"Few days ago the elected president said in the south something we deeply share. That conviction is key to moving forward towards better access conditions, including the reduction or even elimination of barriers that worry us today," he stated.

According to the executive president of the Salmon Council, this situation also invites to unblock the development of the industry from Chile. "Today we reach more than 100 markets and, with clear rules, institutional certainty and a national vision, we can grow more, diversify destinations and consolidate global leadership," she stated.

Therefore, the trade union leader proposed that the new political cycle opens an opportunity to strengthen the country's international insertion.

“We trust that the next Government will place emphasis on international relations that promote investment, trade and development. We value a look that understands the importance of opening paths and strengthening strategic links, and we hope that the new authorities will have the vocation and the talent to move in that direction,” he said.

“More than ever we must strengthen our international seal. The United States is key, but so is the opening of new markets. Chilean salmon is a healthy, sustainable protein and part of the solution to the global food security challenge, and that is a solid basis for further projecting us into the world,” concluded Loreto Seguel.
