- The new edition of Turismo Salmonero, an initiative promoted by Mowi, has five dates scheduled in the Aysén region, which includes a tour of the Piscicultura Fiordo Aysén (PFA), the Turtle Cultivation Center, the Secondary Plant and various activities to promote the local economic development of the area.
As part of the constant effort of Mowi to strengthen ties with communities, the company began the fourth season of Tourism Salmonero, which in 2025 will have five outputs already programmed. This project seeks to bring salmon farming closer to the inhabitants of the Aysén region, showing the participants the whole production cycle of salmon and the development of regional production chains associated with this industry. The initiative began in 2022 and since then invites social leaders, authorities, neighbors and the media to realize different guided tours of the company's operations.
In this new edition, the program had an important novelty: an alliance with the gastronomic sector of Puerto Aysén and Puerto Chacabuco that allowed participants to enjoy a salmon tasting in different restaurants in the region at the end of each navigation. In this way, the first departure culminated with a culinary experience at the Hotel Loberías del Sur, where local chefs presented preparations with local seal. Another innovation of this version was the use of a modern boat that allowed passengers to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the south of the country.

Mowi's Sustainability and Public Affairs manager, Álvaro Pérez, highlighted the importance of the company's sustainability strategy. “Our sustainability strategy called Leading the Blue Revolution seeks to produce food in a healthy way, environmentally sustainable but also with a lot of respect for local communities so that producing salmon is a benefit both for the company and for the communities that live close to our operations.” He also added that “the activity Tourism Salmonero generates that the community joins and knows in the first person what is happening in our company”.
Felipe Rojas, Seremi of Economy, Development and Tourism of the Aysén region, acknowledged that “Mowi has a great commitment to communities and to the regional productive sector, promoting the development of local suppliers, consumers and the regional economy, contributing to greater well-being and economic revival.”
The circuit
The program combines education, entertainment and promotes environmental awareness through guided tours with explanatory videos and field visits to different operating centres in Mowi. Thus, participants have the opportunity to know the technology used in each crop phase.
The tour looked at the facilities of Fjordo Aysén (PFA) fish farming where the production flow was observed. It considers the income of four ova batches that generate approximately eight million salmon a year. Then, the Hatchery area was visited, where the ova from the Copihue Fish Farm in the Los Lagos region are transferred to the first feeding room remaining for about three months.

Subsequently, the route continued in the Turtle cultivation center, where Mowi receives fish from freshwater centers with a size of 150 to 200 grams and reach about 5 kilos of weight.
On this site, participants appreciated the company’s various automated systems, in power supply and control, environmental parameter measurement, and its “Tropero” pontoon, which has a hybrid energy system that significantly reduces its carbon emissions.
The tour concluded with a visit to the Chacabuco secondary processing plant, where attendees witnessed the innovative process of fresh steak production. This tour included five stops: the reception of raw material, the filleting, the cooling, the weighing and automated calibration, and finally the palletizing. In this last stage, Mowi presented the recent additions of high-tech robots that optimize the distribution of finished products. This modernisation reflects Mowi's commitment to innovation and efficiency in its production chain.

The mayor of the municipality of Guaitecas, Bans Puinao, for his part, mentioned that “the activation demonstrated technological advances in the industry from the moment of birth to the marketing of the product”.
Finally, the president of the Gremial Association of Suppliers of the Aquaculture Industry of the Aysén region, Katia Inostroza, also stressed that “Mowi is the only salmon producing company that has its complete process in the region, so the productive development and the generation of employment is very high above all in our commune”. Also, he adds that it is “a sustainable initiative that is a source of pride for the workers of salmon farming”.
