Derogation allows the application of a measure that constitutes a new specific alternative treatment that favours the prevention and control of Caligidosis in culture centers.
On 1 July 2024, the extract from Resolution No 1272/EEC was published in the Official Journal. National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca), dated 12 June 2024, which exceptionally authorizes the pharmacological treatment of Caligidosis, outside the official bathing windows, when it is developed in watertight vessels, as authorized by the Specific Health Program for Monitoring and Control of Caligidosis, contained in Resolution No 60 of 2022, of the Sernapesca.

The exception mentioned above allows for the application of a measure that constitutes a new specific treatment alternative that favours the prevention and control of Caligidosis in cultivation centers. For its part, the use of watertight boats allows the recovery of viable parasites, which contributes to the control of the disease. It also allows for better monitoring of the doses used and the timing of application of the treatments.
It is important to note that this measure does not exempt the centers of cultivation that use it, from monitoring of Caligus on the dates established by regulations, which will allow to maintain the necessary surveillance for the timely detection and the proper application of the measures that the program requires.
