The meeting will be a key opportunity for updating, networking and generating knowledge, aimed at maximizing productive and economic performance in the salmon farming industry.
Salmofood, leading brand of Vitapro, specialised in nutritional solutions for salmon farming, is preparing to receive this Tuesday 11 November to the numerous participants of Transfer Summit 2025, pioneering meeting on the approach of the phase of smoltification and the important role played by the process of transferring salmonids from fresh water to the sea.
Transfer Summit 2025 will bring together renowned national and international researchers, authorities, academics, producers and suppliers, as well as analysts and economists, among other actors, interested in exchanging knowledge and good practices to ensure a successful transition of salmonids and their optimal well-being during this critical phase of the cycle, whose impact is clearly relevant to the future production performance of fish.
The conference considers scientific, technical and economic talks, where topics like physiology will be presented. smolt, techniques of smoltification, pre and post transfer pathologies and nutritional strategies, among other varied topics.
Recognized experts
The Transfer Summit 2025 will depart with a block centered on Physiology, Health and Production. Anja Striberny, PhD, from NOFIMA will be in charge of opening the event with a detailed introduction on smoltification. Subsequently, experts from the University of Los Lagos, Dr. Mauricio Pineda and Dr. Rodrigo Vargas, to be presented on the smoltification in coho salmon and associated biomarkers; to continue with a new intervention by the Norwegian specialist Anja Striberny, who will address different alternatives for Smoltification.
Ricardo Prambs, commercial manager of Transportes Prambs, will close the first segment, with a talk on the BIOTRUCK project, focused on well-being, sustainability and efficiency in the transport of live fish.
The conference will continue with researcher Kirsti Hjelde, PhD and NOFIMA specialist, who will delve into aspects such as the diagnosis of CO2 and nephrocalcinosis. Meanwhile, the importance of fish size in the transfer to sea water will be addressed by Trine Ytrestøyl, PhD, from the same Nordic institution. Claudio Arcos, Project Manager & Customer Support of PHARMAQ Analytiq Chile, will close the morning block with the talk “Smoltvision and salmon adaptation: A molecular approach to improving sea performance”.

The afternoon will be dedicated to Research and Nutrition. In this space, Anja Striberny will address the effects of temperature and salinity on aging. smolt; followed by an exhibition by Trine Ytrestøyl, on the performance of the smolt larger in sea water. For his part, Paulo Alarcón, manager of Feed Technology at Vitapro Chile, will share the advances in pre- and post-transfer functional nutrition, while José Zeballos, leader of Aquabench Audits, will present critical points associated with the transportation of smolt.
The last block will focus on Indicators, Markets and Perspectives for Industry. Here, the participation of Ignacio Briones, economist, academic and former finance minister, is contemplated, who will deepen the economic environment of the salmon industry and its perspectives. Also, the mayor of the Municipality of Puerto Montt, Rodrigo Wainraihgt, will present the Plan Salmón 2050, then give way to a conversation on the future opportunities of the sector, moderated by the journalist Sebastián Aguirre (CNN Chile).
The panelists of this instance will be Pablo Albitur, regional crop manager of Salmones Camanchaca; Oscar Garate, executive director of Sealand Aquaculture; Francisco Lobos, manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Multi X; and Gino Manríquez, manager of Administration and Finance of Australis Seafoods, accompanied by Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt, economist Ignacio Briones and general manager Vitapro Chile, Ramiro Larios.
Strengthening collaboration
The Transfer Summit hopes to strengthen collaboration between academia, industry and suppliers, positioning Chile as a global reference in knowledge and innovation at this stage of cultivation. In this context, STIM Chile recently joined as a sponsor of the event. The company highlights this instance as an opportunity to connect international knowledge with local needs and move towards healthier aquaculture and sustainable. Recognized as one of the leading providers of fish health products and services in the aquaculture industry, the company will have a broadcasting area and networking on the second floor of the Centro de Vinculation Ciudad Puerto.
Eduardo Hofmann, general manager of STIM Chile, argues that Transfer Summit is a very valuable instance for the sector, because it focuses on a critical stage in the production cycle. “This phase determines, to a large extent, the health, well-being and performance of salmon, so having a space that gathers science, innovation and practical experience is key to further progress towards more efficient and sustainable aquaculture. Like company, we deeply value this type of encounters, as they facilitate the transfer of knowledge between producers, researchers and suppliers. We believe that the contribution of the Transfer Summit will be precisely to consolidate a space for technical dialogue that allows us to address the current challenges from a collaborative, evidence-based and results-oriented perspective,” he says.
“For us, these kinds of initiatives not only strengthen innovation, but also cooperation between companies and actors in the aquaculture ecosystem. In addition, they reflect the maturity of the Chilean industry, its capacity for innovation and its commitment to animal welfare,” concludes Eduardo Hofmann.
