A universal accessory is being developed for ROVs that allows the repair of nets in salmon fattening centers without deforming them.
The Opportunities Platform, an initiative of Regional Innovation Center Los Lagos, continues to drive the development of innovative solutions for various productive sectors in the region, among them, salmon farming and construction. This tool is designed to connect companies and entrepreneurs with specific challenges that require creative and technological answers.
Recently, the Platform published three new challenges in salmon farming and one in the construction sector, whose applications will be open until November 1st.
Alejandro Velásquez, director of the industries area at the Innovation Center, explained how these challenges are aimed at solving specific problems and generating advances in these industries.

“This year we are working with both corporate and productive sector challenges. The Opportunities Platform allows companies with an interest in testing new developments to expose their challenges directly through their areas of innovation, functional areas or general management, creating a space for innovative solutions", Velasquez said.
Challenges in salmon farming
Among the most recent challenges in this sector, three key areas stand out:
- Traceability of container units in process plants: solutions are sought, sets of technologies that allow access in a precise way, determining the position, time and status of container units (bins, trays and carts) within the salmon processing plant, thus improving traceability, efficiency and quality control.
- Developing accessories for ROVs (remotely operated vehicles): the aim is to develop a universal accessory for ROVs that allows the repair of nets in salmon fattening centers without deforming them. The device should allow the use of thread for minor breakage and patches for larger breakage, ensuring the integrity and functionality of the networks.
- Active safety control in operating plants and patios: solutions are sought to implement active safety control systems in work environments with hazardous areas or machines. The aim is to protect workers by preventing accidents and minimizing risks through real-time monitoring, automatic hazard detection, and proactive response to risk situations. “It’s not just about generating security reports; solutions are expected to propose real-time technologies, ensuring that incidents are prevented before they occur,” explains Velasquez.
Challenge in the Ruin of Construction
In addition to the aquaculture challenges, the Platform has also launched a major challenge in the construction sector, as is the Intelligent Digitization of Heavy Machinery, which seeks digital management systems for the control of hours of use of heavy machinery on lease. The objective is to ensure high compliance in the delivery of information, visualization, reportability, maintenance and integration with billing systems.
The Opportunities Platform is consolidated as a key bridge between the needs of industries and the creative solutions that innovative and business can propose. The innovators involved will need to present specific use cases for each challenge and demonstrate how their solutions can be expanded to other areas of operation.
With applications open until November 1st on the website www.innovacioinloslagos.com/opportunities as a unique opportunity for innovators and entrepreneurs to offer concrete solutions in sectors that directly impact the development of the region.
