To date, no mass mortalities have been reported associated with the FAN incident, so the holders of the affected farming centers maintain the monitoring.

On March 27th a harmful algal bloom (HAB) of the species was recorded Heterosigma akashiwo, in the Salmonid Concessions Association (ACS) 2, the result of which 4 farming centers have activated their preventive action plan.

Within the framework of the current aquaculture pre-alert and monitoring and surveillance actions, various measures have been taken to prevent the occurrence of mass mortalities in the farming centers where the presence of this microalgae has been detected, such as the authorization of fish movement to other farming centers, harvesting authorizations, increased fish stay in collection centers, etc.

It should be noted that to date, there have been no mass mortalities associated with the FAN incident, so the holders of the affected cultivation centers continue to monitor microalgae.

From Sernapesca they indicated that permanent monitoring is being carried out of the situation occurring in the cultivation centers where this microalgae has been detected and in the surrounding areas, in order to ensure compliance with the measures established in the regulations.

Finally, it should be noted that the microalgae detected, Heterosigma akashiwo it is harmful to fish because it consumes the dissolved oxygen in the water column causing suffocation, gill damage and oxidative stress, and is not toxic to humans.
