The National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sernapesca reiterated the call to apply for Blue Seal Responsible Consumption Programme, accreditation that encourages the responsible consumption of legally sourced marine resources. The initiative, whose application will be open until 30 June 2024, accredits establishments committed to sustainability and compliance with fisheries and aquaculture regulations, ensuring that the resources of such establishments are legally sourced.

According to Sernapesca, the commercial centers of marine resources and products that wish to obtain the Blue Seal must prove compliance with a series of requirements, such as sourcing from suppliers with legal origin accreditation; having valid authorizations at both municipal and sanitary levels, not having been sanctioned for infringement of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Law, among others.

In the call for participation, retail consumption centers such as restaurants and hotels can also take part, being able to receive an accreditation by extension, provided that they are supplied by a seafood marketer who is accredited with Blue Seal.

The premises that meet the requirements and are selected to be part of the program Blue Seal, they will receive a leaf seal that will be placed on their premises in a place visible to the public, besides becoming part of the registry available on the website of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service and the map of premises with Blue Seal.

Sernapesca also reiterated the emphasis that citizens, especially those who are habitual consumers of fish and seafood, consult the origin of resources or prefer the premises with Blue Seal, as this is a sure way to support responsible consumption and the legality of hydrobiological resources.
