Blue Seal accredits enterprises as drivers of responsible consumption of fish and seafood, in their most varied forms and styles.

Since its implementation, the Responsible Consumption Program "Blue Seal" of the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) has become a major platform for accreditation and dissemination of those establishments selling and consuming seafood products that comply with fisheries regulations and contribute to the sustainability and responsible consumption of fish and shellfish.

This is observed by consumers, as they have access to the information to choose suppliers who are committed to responsible fishing; and they ensure they have products of high nutritional value and with raw material of legal origin.

It was like that that in the Food and Service 2024, one of the main food industry fairs in Latin America, different commercial establishments and ventures focused on the sale and distribution of sea resources were present, which have the Blue Seal that accredits them as promoters of responsible consumption of fish and seafood, in their most varied forms and styles.

One of the successful cases that was recognized at the fair as one of the 50 food innovations of 2024, is the mobile fish market Tres Peces of Valparaíso initiative that received the Blue Seal in February of this year. Meyling Tang, representative of the local, detailed that "the response from chefs, restaurant owners and those interested in buying fish at Food and Service was very interesting because many are looking for and betting on sustainability, they are also trying to vary their product offer."

For this reason, the Blue Seal sand has become a great tool that supports the work done. “It is super interesting what is happening now in marine gastronomy, and how certain restaurants and cooks are also varying their offer and looking for alternatives with history, with stories and that are of legal origin. And in that the Blue Seal has served us as a tremendous support to be able to tell what we do and that has Sernapesca’s backing,” he said.

Claudia Piña is a legal representative of Stefymar, entrepreneurship of the Region of Valparaíso that has the Blue Seal and is dedicated to the processing, processing and marketing of marine resources, through different products. “It was an excellent opportunity to show our innovative and sustainable products to a diverse audience, including current customers, potential business partners and industry experts,” he says regarding his participation in Food and Service 2024, where they received good feedback from their products “especially the “Mousses of the Pacific” and the “Marine Seasons of Patagonia”, which reinforces our commitment to offer high quality products with a handcrafted approach.”

In this regard, Piña values the Blue Seal as a key element for Stefymar’s development: “We are very grateful for our commitment to the sustainability and protection of marine resources. This recognition differentiates us in the market, giving our customers confidence that our products are not only of high quality, but also aligned with responsible and sustainable practices. In addition, it has been an incentive for continue to innovate in the creation of products that respect and value the marine environment.”

Other commercial establishments that are accredited with the Blue Seal and that participated in Space Food and Service 2024 were the Distributor Rapa Nui of Santiago, which sells frozen products of the sea and that has delivered information about the Responsible Consumption Program; the marketer Mi Caleta de Viña del Mar and Friosur of the Region of Aysén, whose sales room Coyhaique has the Blue Seal.

In the opinion of the National Director of Sernapesca, Soledad Tapia AlmonacidThrough the Responsible Consumption Program, the links between all persons engaged in the responsible extraction of the resources of the sea, with those who market them and with the final consumers are promoted, considering the look and citizen participation in the care of the resources, thanks to the preference of the Blue Seal. “For this reason, our call is to all those who sell and distribution of fish and seafood, whether fishmongers, restaurants, the sale of processed products, among others, that join the Blue Seal, and contribute to the sustainable development of an economic activity that is the livelihood of thousands of men and women throughout the country,” he said.
