With the official receipt of a zero kilometre truck with a refrigerated system, the San Antonio Social Group Jaiberos confirmed this Wednesday its long-awaited local project to promote and expand the channels for the commercialization of its star product: the lemon crab and the various seafood products with added value that they work on in their processing plant located in the Pacheco Altamirano cove area.
The group acquired this new vehicle through the national competition "Caleta Operación-Vehículos de Trabajo" of National Institute for the Sustainable Development of Artisanal Fisheries and Small-Scale Aquaculture, INDESPA, positioning itself as one of the eleven beneficiary organizations of this call at national level and the only one from the Valparaíso region.
The national director of INDESPA, Leonardo Llanos Huerta, next to SEREMI of Economy, Development and Tourism, Marcelo Arredondo Araya, made the official delivery of the new vehicle, which represents resources of about fifty million pesos and directly contributes to boosting the sale of products such as crab meat and claws, fish fillets and shellfish, which this organization processes in its small-scale resources processing plant, located in San Antonio.

“We are delivering this work vehicle that allows the association to be able to continue the work they do in their process plant, to be able to distribute resources from the sea, they work with crabs, mainly lemon jaiba. Today they are processing other important resources also, with enough identity here in the port as the hake, and this allows them to reach customers with a fresh product, extracted here in San Antonio, process it at its plant and then distribute it... look for new customers and markets, establish new marketing channels and that’s what we’re looking for as INDESPA,” he said. National Director, Leonardo Llanos.
Germán Martínez Herrera, president of the social grouping of Jaiberos, he said that the plan of work for this new vehicle “is to market and move our products to Santiago, we have enough buyers of restaurants where the orders are not very large and at the moment we lost them. Today, day with the truck, I think we will attract many more customers, we can make a route, set days and thus be able to sell more products in Santiago. Also make pairs for other regions, go look for other products like the same jaiba, reineta, that we can process in our plant, so this truck is very useful,” the leader stressed.
The presentation was also attended by the representative of the Port of San Antonio, the head of the provincial office of Sernapesca, Alfonso Ruiz, professionals of INDESPA and associates and associates of the beneficiary group.
The Seremi de Economía Marcelo Arredondo, appreciated the work carried out by the organization and emphasized that with the incorporation of this new vehicle “they will be able to market in places that until now can not do it, in addition they integrate in the value chain from the production, the fishing and, moreover, now they will distribute the product to those buyers who appreciate, in this case the jaiba and other products that are preparing to diversify their business...in addition to generating employment,” highlighted the regional authority.
The JAC Motors vehicle has a payload of one thousand five hundred kilograms, refrigeration at -15°C or equivalent, automatic and manual defrosting, and thermal insulation.
