The initiative includes the participation of the companies Walbusch, Aquarov, AST Networks and GMT – Marine Farm.

With the representation of all its public and private members, as well as external consultants, a new session of the Strategic Council of the Strategic Technology Program for the Development of Ocean Aquaculture (17PTECAO-84017) was held, driven by the Corporation for the Promotion of Production (Corfo).

In the meeting, a unanimous decision was taken to approve the validation plan of the technologies developed in the first stage of the Program, which aims to create the infrastructure and enabling services for fish farming in exposed and/or high-energy areas in Chile.

Together with highlighting that the validation plan will begin to be implemented from next April, the director of PTECAO, Daniel Nieto, valued that "the developments achieved in three years of intense work are already being incorporated into the industry, which has shown the greatest interest in them to the point of substantially changing the validation stage that originally would have only one scaling cage."

The words of Nieto are based on the fact that 18 cages are already built and in operation since May 2021, containing approximately two million Atlantic salmon (Atlantic salmon).

"This shows, once again, the interest of salmon farming companies in these new structures, the new robotics and the most efficient smart home technology, all of which is designed for high energy environments, where waves are between four and six meters, currents of three knots and strong winds," highlighted the director of this Corfo programme which includes the participation of the companies Walbusch, Aquarov, AST Networks and Granja Marina Tornagaleones (GMT – Marine Farm)
