The 80-hour program will address key areas such as strategic planning, national and international economic news, cost management, sustainability, artificial intelligence applied to productivity, labor legislation, leadership and innovation.

The Development University (UDD), in collaboration with SalmonChile and leading aquaculture companies, announced on Monday 31 March the launch of the "Diploma in Management and Leadership for Heads of Aquaculture Cultivation Centers", an educational program designed to strengthen the executive competencies of technical professionals who lead cultivation centers in the industry.

The diploma, which will start on 11 June 2025, arises after a series of meetings and working tables held at the end of last year, where representatives from the aquaculture sector and academics identified the main knowledge and skills gaps that center managers face in their daily management.

"This program represents the formal return of the Universidad del Desarrollo to the south-southern zone of Chile, resuming a tradition that began with the successful MBA Puyehue, from which numerous executives graduated who now hold leadership positions in the national aquaculture industry," said Nicolás Varela Peddar, Director of Lifelong Learning UDD.

In turn, the Projects and Studies Manager of SalmonChile, Marcela Bravo, stated that "strengthening the knowledge of those who are key figures for salmon production is key to the sustainable development and competitiveness of the industry. That is why we believe this diploma is a great news and we hope many people can participate in this initiative, thus contributing to the strengthening of the sector."

The 80-hour program will address key areas such as strategic planning, national and international economic news, cost management, sustainability, artificial intelligence applied to productivity, labor legislation, leadership and innovation, directly responding to the needs identified by the sector itself.

"The aquaculture industry has clearly stated that, in addition to technical excellence, center managers need to develop executive and management skills to face the challenges of an increasingly complex and competitive environment," explained Gonzalo Olivari Alomar, Director of Corporate Education UDD Concepción-Puerto Montt. "Our mission as a university is to be a strategic partner for the development of the sector, contributing our" experience in areas such as management, leadership and economics.

The diploma, which will be taught online live, will have a high-level teaching body composed of academics and professionals with extensive experience working in projects of different industries in our country, which will allow enriching the training and transferring good management practices from different productive sectors to the aquaculture field.

An additional benefit for the participating companies is that the program has tax-free SENCE, which represents an important advantage for organizations seeking to train their collaborators by optimizing resources. For their part, the companies associated with SalmonChile will have a 25% discount on the value of the program, reflecting the commitment of both institutions to the strengthening of human capital in the industry.
