The main groups of Chilean salmon farming have provided their sponsorship to the International Conference on Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome (SRS 2026), which will be held in November in Puerto Varas. The event, organized by INCAR², will bring together scientists, producers and authorities to address the challenges and advances in the control of one of the most relevant diseases for the salmon industry.
The three main associations of Chilean salmon farming: SalmonChile/INTESAL, the Salmon Council and the Magallanes Salmon Farmers Association - provided their sponsorship for the International Conference on Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome (SRS 2026)), event organized by the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquatic Research - Applied Research, INCAR², which will take place between 9 and 11 November in Puerto Varas.
Likewise, this activity represents the continuation of a long-term collaboration between INTESAL and the INCAR² Center, an alliance that has significantly contributed to generating applied knowledge for Chilean salmon farming," highlighted the Coordinator of Health and Safety at Intesal, Dr. Alexander Jaramillo.
At the same time, the Executive President of the Salmon Council, Loreto Seguel, added that "from the Salmon Council we value the holding of the International SRS Congress in Chile, because it reflects the level of development of Chilean salmon farming and its ability to advance in line with global standards, incorporating science, innovation and technology in all its production process. Such meetings highlight a industry is advancing in a sustainable way and continues to generate knowledge, capabilities and solutions to maintain our global leadership, with a long-term vision.
For the President of the Magallanes Salmon Farmers Association, Carlos Odebret, "controlling SRS is a decision that Chile has made for several years. However, it remains a permanent challenge for producers throughout Chile. The low prevalence of the disease in Magallanes allows us to focus on prevention, so the holding of this seminar will contribute to gathering knowledge and new" knowledge for the prevention, management and control of the disease"
"The joint support of these organizations reflects the industry's commitment to the generation of scientific knowledge, innovation and the development of solutions to face the Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome (SRS), one of the main diseases affecting Chilean salmon farming," highlighted the academic from Andrés Bello University and Alternate Director of INCAR², Dr. Rubén Avendaño-Herrera.
SRS 2026 makes steady progress
The event, which will mark a milestone as it becomes the first world conference dedicated exclusively to this theme, has generated great interest for the different actors linked to the industry, “which is reflected in how the process of registration of the conference progresses,” they said from the organization.
The Conference keeps open the deadline for the submission of summaries for the international conference. The scientific program of SRS2026 includes six thematic sessions that will address key aspects to understand and address this disease from different perspectives. Among the topics considered are Animal Health and Welfare, Environmental Epidemiology and Predictive Modeling, SRS Control Tools, and Technology Tools and Biotechnologicals for its Control, in addition to other modules focused on the interaction between science, industry and public policies.
The International Conference on Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome (SRS 2026) is currently sponsored by Vaxxinova, Alianza Yelcho, Mowi and Virbac, and sponsored by SUBPESCA, SERNAPESCA, INTESAL, the Salmon Associations SalmonChile, the Salmon Council and the Magellan Salmon Farmers Association, and the Municipality of Puerto Varas. In addition, SRS 2026 Conference will have the participation and support of the media partners Salmonexpert, Media AQUA, InfoSALMON, Mundo Acuícola, Partnerfish, AquaHoy, Panorama Acuícola and AquaFeed.com
