The Nordic entities work in alliance with education departments, schools, companies, guilds, municipalities, foundations or corporations, with the purpose of promoting the integral development of students, especially in vulnerable, remote and socially at-risk areas.
Plus Finland is a Finnish-Chilean organization with a public purpose, formed by international specialists, with bases in Santiago and Helsinki, that works promoting Finnish educational solutions with the aim of driving the sustainable development of local communities.
Given the serious violence crisis taking place in the country's facilities due to the return to in-person classes, Plus Finland has made available workshops for teachers and now the release of Mightifier, an advocate for socioemotional development that allows identifying risk situations and strengthening the character and self-esteem of students. It is an easy-to-use tool, and its use is scalable, generating a significant impact in a short time.
Together with the experts from Mightifier, they took the initiative to offer support to teachers, and made this tool available for a limited time: the first free workshop will take place from 09:00 hours on next Thursday 7 April (press here to register).
Urgent challenge
The project manager of Plus Finland, Eevamaija Vuollo, explains that the return to in-person classes during March has revealed huge challenges not only in academic terms, but in the socio-emotional well-being of the students.
"We have seen an alarming level of violence, and although violence was already a concern before the pandemic, the lockdown and the lack of routines that promote socioemotional learning in students have worsened the challenge in educational communities," emphasized the Finnish specialist, who is based in Chile.
At the same time, emphasized "that," Without emotional well-being, there is no possible learning, and from Plus Finland we want to offer some concrete tools to address this urgent challenge. We invite all educational communities to use these tools which are already improving the well-being of students in Finland and in different parts of the world," he added.
A globally awarded application
Mightifier is a digital tool that allows to research the emotional state of students and support the development of social skills and a positive learning environment. The application, which has received awards in different parts of the world, works based on data on the state of young people, through simple questions and exercises, and its regular use is both in the classroom and in distance learning situations.
In short, the data allows alerting teachers and school directors about situations that may be affecting the students and the educational community in general.
Our youth is growing up in one of the most stressful times in human history. The global pandemic, climate change and now the war in Europe. Children and girls do not have the tools to manage this anxiety themselves or to make it disappear: the teaching of social and emotional skills should be a priority in schools at this time. This is of vital importance because it cannot be expected that anxious students be creative, collaborate or learn new mathematical formulas. Mightifier is based on decades of research in positive psychology. The program emphasizes that each student is unique. By showing their strengths, we prepare them to face the world and be resilient when the next crisis comes," says the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mightifier, Mervi Pänkäläinen.
