Between the 10th and 11th of November 2026, the city of Puerto Varas, Chile will host the International Conference on Salmon Rickettsial Syndrome (SRS2026) - Integrating Science, Industry and Policy for Sustainable Salmon Farming.
The event organized by the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research - Applied Research, INCAR², brings together researchers, industry professionals, regulatory authorities and representatives of civil society with the aim of creating an interdisciplinary exchange space to present and discuss the latest advances in piscirickettsiosis, including new technologies, diagnostic approaches and therapeutic strategies. and its environmental and socioeconomic impact

Rickettsial Salmonid Septicemia (SRS), caused by Piscirickettsia salmonisIt is the most devastating infectious disease for salmon farming in Chile, representing nearly 70% of mortality from infectious causes. However, in recent years it has been detected in other salmon-producing countries in the European continent, causing fish mortality. Its impact is critical as it generates high economic losses, reduces export competitiveness and forces the intensive use of antibiotics.
Considering the relevance of this international conference and that it will take place in one of the main salmon farming regions of Chile, I would like to invite researchers, producers and industry suppliers, from all countries that share this challenge, to book the date and be part of the International SR2 2026 Conference, organized by the INCAR² Center. We look forward to seeing you on 10 and 11 November in Puerto Varas, Chile, for share knowledge, science and solutions for the future of salmon farming," said the Academic from Universidad Andrés Bello and Deputy Director of INCAR², Dr. Ruben Avendaño-Herrera.
The conference programme, the first one held on SRS, will include thematic modules and networking spaces aimed at strengthening the health and sustainability of salmon farming at a global level.
