283 tonnes have been reported as affected, which is 10% of the total centre, which are being removed using a deep-sea fishing vessel (PAM) to the La Portada reduction plant.
During Thursday February 12, the company Invermar S.A. activated its action plan following a mass mortality event caused by a low oxygen phenomenon that affected the Traiguén 2 cultivation center (code 102115), located in the commune of Quinchao, Chiloé.
So far, 283 tonnes have been reported as affected, which is 10% of the total centre, which are being removed using a high-sea fishing vessel (PAM) destined for the La Portada reduction plant.
Inspectors from the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) are on site verifying that all activities included in the contingency action plan are being addressed appropriately.
Cristian Hudson, regional director of Sernapesca in Los Lagos, said: "It is important to note that this type of oceanographic phenomena are occasional in the region, causing localized mortalities in salmon farms and, in some cases, stranding of some species such as channel prawns. We will continue to monitor this specific event and the behavior of other nearby farming centers."
