Through a collaboration agreement, both parties agreed to promote information platforms projects that contribute to the sustainability of this productive sector, as well as working tables, joint events and articulation of relevant science.

The Future Congress from this year comes good news for the collaboration between salmon farming and the scientific world. And indeed, the trade union SalmonChile, through its scientific branch the Salmon Technology Institute (Intesal), signed a joint work agreement with the Future Encounters Foundation, in order to promote science and its dissemination within the productive sector, mainly oriented towards aquaculture and the oceans.

The agreement was signed between the president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément and the executive vice president of the Foundation Encuentros del Futuro, Guido Girardi. In the document, both parties commit to carrying out joint initiatives in the field of knowledge dissemination and associated science, including the organization of joint events, promoting projects of transparent information platforms, working tables and articulation of relevant science. All with the aim of contributing to the sustainability of this productive sector.

The agreement is also part of the work carried out by the Salmon Technology Institute (Intesal) through its Science Plan, in which it has established a solid research base to address the challenges of salmon farming in key areas such as biodiversity, marine floors, oceanography, coastal governance and water resources, promoting the sustainable development of the sector.

The president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément, highlighted that "we are very pleased to be able to continue promoting science in our productive sector, because it is fundamental to continue advancing in the sustainability of the industry and in how we project ourselves into the coming years, considering that seafood products are the future for the food of a growing global population that will demand more healthy and nutritious foods. The" Aquaculture and environmental care are indeed compatible, and we hope that through this agreement we can continue to demonstrate this reality.

In turn, the executive vice-president of the Foundation Encuentros del Futuro, Guido Girardi, pointed out that in the future, the need to produce foods that are harmonious with the environment and people's health will shift to the seas, in which context Chile has an opportunity to position itself as a global center to feed the planet. In this sense, Girardi indicated that "salmon farming is a laboratory wonderful. We have the most productive sea in the world and we have the knowledge. Because Chile has more than 20 years of experience, it has positioned itself globally. Now, salmon farming has huge advances that we value, but it also has an entropic bill that we need to solve; that is, the half empty glass. And that half empty glass can be improved. And we are working with the scientists of this country, with the universities, precisely, to see in what way we can improve".

Science and oceans in the south of the country

In addition to the agreement signed in Santiago, this Wednesday 15 January the Future Congress of Los Lagos began at the Enjoy Hotel in Puerto Varas, driven by SalmonChile, the University of Los Lagos and Fundación Encuentros Futuro, an event that will connect science, technology and sustainability.

The event features international keynote speakers, such as Ussif Rashid Sumaila, expert in oceanic and fisheries economics; Mathias Middelboe, marine biologist and microbiologist; and Thor Sigfusson, entrepreneur in circular economy and sustainability.

We are convinced that it will be a unique opportunity to reflect on the impact of science and innovation on the sustainable development of our region. This meeting will allow us to discuss the key role of the ocean for the national future, where salmon farming can be an contribution to facing the challenges that food of the future has. We are proud to be part of this initiative that will highlight the region of "Los Lagos as a pole of innovation and sustainability at a global level," specified the president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément.
