The president of the salmon farming industry held a series of strategic meetings with local authorities and representatives of the regional innovation ecosystem, consolidating a roadmap that prioritises sustainable development, public-private collaboration and the long-term projection of the sector in southern Chile.
In the framework of its institutional linkage agenda, the president of SalmonChile, Patricio Melero, carried out an intense working day in the Los Lagos Region, a key territory for national salmon farming, where he held meetings with local authorities and relevant actors in the regional innovation ecosystem.
This series of strategic meetings, which add to the initiatives already implemented with various local stakeholders, reflects the mark that the new guild presidency seeks to imprint on its management: strengthening a close relationship with the territories where the productive sector operates, understanding in depth their challenges and coordinating joint work aimed at the sustainable development of southern Chile.
As part of its territorial agenda, the president of SalmonChile held a meeting with the mayor of Puerto Montt, Rodrigo Wainraihgt, during which they addressed challenges and opportunities for the regional capital, as well as the contribution of salmon farming to the economic and social development of the area. Both authorities agreed on the importance of long-term initiatives such as the Salmon 2050 Plan, which seeks to project the future of the activity in harmony with territorial development.

Subsequently, Melero met with the mayor of Puerto Varas, Tomás Gárate, and visited the Patagonia Biotech HUB, an innovation centre that promotes entrepreneurship and technological development from southern Chile. This visit allowed them to learn in detail about the initiatives that are consolidating an innovation ecosystem with regional identity and international projection, a key element for the future competitiveness of productive sector.
The regional agenda also included a visit to Bioled, a supplier company associated with SalmonChile, led by entrepreneurs Ximena and Cristina Navarro. At this stage, the guild president was able to learn first-hand about a technological innovation developed entirely in the south of the country, which exemplifies the potential of local companies to generate high value-added solutions for the sector.
"For SalmonChile it is fundamental to strengthen a work agenda connected with the territories, their authorities and their innovation capacities. We firmly believe that the future of the sector is built from the regions, dialoguing with those who are driving development, entrepreneurship and new opportunities for southern Chile. We are committed to being a real contribution to the sustainable growth of the communities where we operate," said Patricio Melero, president of SalmonChile.
